KIOSK INFORMATION / TERMS & CONDITIONS
RESTORED K6 KIOSK (HIGH GRADE) –
Comprising original kiosk number six (K6) unless otherwise stated (K2, K8, etc.). K6 kiosks date from 1935 to C1968. We try to retain as many original components as possible, however it may be necessary to replace or replicate certain items in the event of worn, damaged, faulty or missing items.
A kiosks construction is cast iron, therefore we sandblast all our fully restored examples. We cannot be held responsible for casting imperfections such as pin holes and ‘pop flaws’ that remain in the final paint surface as we rectify as many as possible. Over 75,000 K6 kiosks were produced, therefore even though early casting standards were high, raw cast iron is a heavily textured and pitted composite. It takes dozens of layers of paint to completely loose this appearance. Kiosks currently owned & operated by BT have this effect. However intricate detail has been lost through over-painting over time.
Glazing is held in place with clear silicone sealant unless otherwise stated or required by the customer. Cast iron inner glazing frames or modern steel examples are available from time to time. These are additional items for a restored kiosk, thus will be charged appropriately. Cast iron examples are extremely rare and command a higher price.
‘Council Adopted’ kiosks:
Council Adopted kiosks will be re-glazed with 6.4 laminated safety glass, held in place with clear silicone beads as per our standard refurbishment programme. Any adopted kiosk that had previously retained all or a quantity of internal glazing frames, whether cast iron or steel, will become the property of Remember When UK if not claimed back within 30 days of the initial 50% deposit.
Currently there is no discrepancy in price between a Georgian and Elizabethan crowned example. We reserve to right to change this at any given time. All electrical items and components are sold untested & will require a safety check from a qualified electrician prior to installation. The item(s) remain the property of Remember When UK until paid in full.
Remember When UK reserves the right to retain the 50% deposit if, ‘Through whatever reason’ the sale is cancelled and the kiosk is more than 50% restored (sandblasted and primed status) Remember When UK offers a first class restoration service, however we can hold no responsibility for manufactures faults. (casting imperfections, hairline cracks, paint contamination, colour discrepancies, paint fade, flake or rust)
We advise a lightning conductor is installed within the kiosk to prevent a lightning strike.
We can only offer a fully documented photographic portfolio if an unrestored kiosk is chosen by the customer. Restored examples in stock may have limited or no photographic history of restoration. Standard backboards are original examples. They will have been polished, however UV rays and general contamination will have taken an effect on the laminated surface of the board. The boards may also express writing and telephone numbers scratched into the surface. This is through years of abuse from members of the general public. As payphones are not installed in standard Grade 1 examples, screw holes and location holes are evident on all used backboards. New back boards are available. Supplied and installed at cost. Prices on application.
RESTORED GRADE 1 K6 KIOSK (JUBILEE SPEC)
As above plus:
A/B coin boxes are high-quality replication units with no internal components. Restored original A/B coin boxes are periodically available.
Jubilee interiors are high-quality reproductions unless original examples are quoted, stated or requested. Priced on the application & subject to availability. Telephones are high-quality reproductions unless original examples are quoted, stated or requested.
UNRESTORED KIOSKS
‘Unrestored’ kiosks mean condition ‘as found’. There are available periodically on a ‘sold as seen’ basis. Unrestored examples could contain a mixture of glass, perspex, missing or broken glazing. Various components may be missing or faulty. Kiosks in an unrestored condition are sold ‘condition dependant’ therefore pricing may fluctuate. We reserve the right to change these figures at any time. In the event of a customer unable to view a kiosk, we will do our best to describe the unit to the best of our abilities. We cannot say what lies under numerous layers of paint or if there is any damage. Unrestored kiosks may have suffered cosmetically as well as structurally as a result of years of neglect, thus no warranties or guarantees can be given. We stock a comprehensive array of new, used and refurbished spares available at cost. Prices on application, subject to availability.
