This King George VI lamp box replica is from the second generation of British lamp boxes first introduced in 1935 towards the end of the reign of King George V when pleasing design, quality and craftsmanship was still as important as the usability of end product. Slightly wider, and with a bigger slot than the previous it reflected the increasing demand and size of mail items of the period. It is now rare to see these boxes in use, those that are have preservation orders on them.
