Carl BurgeCarl Burge - proprietor

All my life I've had a huge interest in British collectibles and memorabilia. From the tender age of nine I was either digging up Victorian tips and bottle dumps for that ultimate find, or rummaging through jumble sales for early Beano books. I collected fossils, bottles and coins, stamps and Dinky toys. Electric train sets were all the rage in the 70's, but I preferred steam engines. One Raleigh Chopper bicycle led to owning four, eventually BSA motor cycles became the norm.… Later on in my teenage years I became the proud owner of a 1966 Ford Anglia, for the grand sum of £50....(weeks of saved pocket money, and at fifteen years old) I studied light vehicle body repair at two colleges from sixteen, and went on to restoring a 1958 Morris Minor at eighteen. At twenty one I bought my first home. No 1a became 'Peppermint Twist'  The 'bachelor pad with a twist'!  It was more like a miniature night club, complete with Wurlitzer Jukebox, enamel signs, slot machines and a restored petrol pump, all crammed into a 12 foot square room!  With a continued interest in architectural antiques, I began to acquire enamel signs, petrol pump globes, telephone boxes and a variety of bygones ranging from bakelite telephones to WW2 gas masks.

The opportunity arose to open a small shop in the grounds of a beautiful restored tower windmill near Downham Market in Norfolk.  Denver windmill became my second home.

Two years later, working nine to five, Monday to Friday for Mercedes Benz, plus weekends and bank holidays, meant my home life was suffering. With the arrival of my daughter, I decided it was time to close the doors at Denver windmill for the last time. Within a few months I began selling my items on the Internet web site eBay. This became the turning point, as it 'reached out' to collectors from every corner of the globe, also proving to be an excellent way to promote the new 'Remember When UK' web site.

In April 2005 I took the 'leap of faith' leaving the motor trade for good, taking with me 20 years of experience in restoration, panel beating, welding & spraying.

I intend to offer an interesting range of collectibles for sale, catering for many tastes, whilst offering a friendly service with old fashioned traditional values. Please remember, I offer a personal restoration service tailored to your requirements, including historic vehicle rebuilds and undertake sandblasting, paintwork, period building redesign and salvage locating.

Please feel free to leave your comments on the messageboard, or sign up for the free bimonthly news letter. Alternately you can contact me to discuss any topics relating to this site.
